This is an early doll found in a bit of a pitiful state. She is wonderful and I felt she needed to be brought back to life, I hoped that I have accomplished this! She is filled with straw & rags and has many original repairs, I assume that she was very well loved. I made 5 repairs to her body and strengthened her arms. I over stitched her mitten hands and her legs and stitched her up a wonderful head because the original was long gone. For these I used a 19th. Century faded black cotton. Her face has a needle sculpted nose, stitched eyes & lips. The photo's show the stages of her restoration as best as could be. She wears early blue homespun long drawers, which I hand stitched. Her underskirt is an old doll underskirt with it's original spotting & wear. Her blouse is an early blue calico with various early blue calicoes added for her cravet and repairs. Her skirt is sewn from an early faded blue home dyed homespun with necessary repairs. She has a naive sewing pocket with cross stitched icons sewn from early blue wool. All buttons are early. Her head scarf is pieced early homespun & calico. Her socks are sewn from early child's socks and the old rags that stick out from the stuffing from her toes is showing. She measures 21 inches tall.
